JAVA-BASED PC TO HOST SOFTWARE SIMPLIFIES ACCESS VIA INTERNET.

HOB Electronic GmbH & Co., Dalls, Texas, a German developer of PC to host connectivity software, announces HOBLink J-Term, a Web to host software package that offers a Java solution for 3270, 5250 and VT525 terminal emulation.

Designed to run on any computer with a Java virtual machine, HOBLink J-term is one of the world's first emulation products completely written in Java, and the only software to allow the printing of IBM host data from the Java applet via the World Wide Web.

According to Gerd Janssen, managing director of HOB Electronic, with HOBLink J-term, no HTML conversion is required. And because the product is completely platform independent, HOBLink J-Term offers the advantage of flexibility.

"It can either run on a PC with a Web browser or on a network client," Janssen said. "And Java capable browsers are offered by Netscape, Microsoft and SUN for nearly all the important platforms, so it's well-suited for almost any scenario that calls for 3270, 5250 or VT525 emulation."

Host connection is possible from any Java-capable computer connected to the Internet. No additional software needs to be installed, and the only entry that needs to be made is the web address (URL) of the web-page which contains HOBLink J-Term.

In addition to flexibility and easy installation, HOBLink J-Term can compress the entire 3270 data stream, saving line costs and speeding up communications. Data encryption is also possible, which provides greater security for confidential data sent via the Internet.

HOBLink J-Term sells for $1790 for a 10-user license, and discounts are offered for orders of more than 10 users.

In addition, trial copies of HOBLink J-Term may be downloaded from the product section of HOB's web page at www.hob.de.

Founded in 1964, HOB Electronic is based in Zirndorf, Germany. In 1981, the company changed its strategic focus to developing and manufacturing platform- and protocol-independent PC host and network connectivity solutions. HOB products are sold in the U.S. through designated resellers, and the company maintains a central marketing office in Dallas.
