JAMESWAY CORPORATION REPORTS SALES FOR DECEMBER 1993

 SECAUCUS, N.J., Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Jamesway Corporation (NYSE: JMY) today announced that sales for the five-week period ended Jan. 1, 1994, excluding a leased department, were $118.7 million compared to $136.3 million for the corresponding period a year ago. Excluding 14 stores to be closed shortly, same store sales for the five- week period decreased 6%. The company reported that December 1993 sales were less promotional than a year ago. The reduction in sales reflects 108 stores in operation this year compared to 121 stores a year ago.
 Sales for the 48 weeks ended Jan. 1, 1994 were $697.2 million compared to $826.4 million for the corresponding period last year. Same store sales for the 48 weeks decreased 9%.
 Jamesway Corporation operates discount department stores in seven mid-Atlantic states.
