JAMES L. RAINEY JR. ELECTED TO JACOBS ENGINEERING GROUP INC. BOARD OF DIRECTORS

 PASADENA, Calif., March 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. (NYSE: JEC) announced today that James L. Rainey Jr., has been elected to the board of directors of Jacobs Engineering Group Inc.
 The announcement was made by Noel G. Watson, president and chief executive officer of the Pasadena-based international engineering and construction company. Rainey's election to Jacobs' board increases the number of members to 11.
 Rainey, 63, served from 1986 to 1991 as president and chief executive officer of Farmland Industries, a Kansas City-based agri- industrial giant. In the four years prior to Rainey assuming the reins, Farmland had suffered substantial losses. Within a year after taking the helm, he effected a $200 million turnaround, resulting in the company becoming profitable again -- an exemplary performance regarded as one of the most impressive in the annals of U.S. business.
 Prior to joining Farmland, he had a 22-year career with Kerr- McGee Corp., the nation's 16th-largest energy concern. He was president of Kerr-McGee Chemical Corp., Kerr-McGee's industrial chemical subsidiary, and a senior vice president of the parent company. Kerr-McGee is a basic energy company with operations in petroleum exploration and production, refining, coal and chemicals, marketed in more than 30 countries worldwide.
 He currently serves as chairman of the National Serv-Ice Corp., director of the Wirthlin Group, director of the Agriculture Council of America, member of the advisory board of Marshfield Medical Clinic, and member of the advisory board of Hudson Institute.
 Rainey holds a bachelor of science in agriculture from Purdue University (1952), and received an honorary doctorate degree in 1991 from the same university. He currently resides in Edmond, Okla.
