JAMES L. MARDEN APPOINTED PRESIDENT OF DIVERSIFIED PRODUCTS CORPORATION

 ATLANTA, Oct. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- The Actava Group Inc. (NYSE: ACT), formerly Fuqua Industries, announced today that James L. Marden has been appointed president and chief executive officer of Actava's wholly owned subsidiary, Diversified Products Corporation (DP(R)).
 Marden succeeds Stephen J. O'Brien, who resigned for personal reasons.
 Marden's appointment is effective immediately. Prior to joining DP, Marden served as president and chief operating officer of Ryobi Motor Products Corporation in Easley, S.C. Ryobi Motor Products is owned by Ryobi Limited of Tokyo, Japan. Ryobi is an international corporation with operations in aluminum die casting, golf clubs, portable and benchtop electric tools, outdoor lawn equipment, vacuum cleaners, and O.E.M. motors.
 Charles R. Scott, president and chief executive officer of Actava, said Marden brings to DP strong leadership skills and an extensive background in manufacturing and marketing. In addition to his work for Ryobi, Marden has held senior positions with subsidiaries or divisions of AB Electrolux Corporation, Whirlpool Corporation, McGraw-Edison Corporation and General Electric Company.
 Scott said he began a search for O'Brien's replacement several weeks ago after O'Brien told him that he wanted to resign for personal reasons. O'Brien agreed to remain as president of DP until his replacement could be found. Scott said: "We are very grateful to Steve O'Brien for his contributions to DP and for his loyalty to DP and to Actava. We wish him all the best for the future."
 DP, which was acquired by Actava in June of this year, is one of the largest and best recognized fitness and recreation equipment companies in the United States. DP had fiscal 1992 sales of approximately $190 million. DP is located in Opelika, Ala. Marden and his wife Lorna are both graduates of Auburn University, which is located near Opelika.
 In addition to DP, Actava has four companies engaged in the broader leisure industry: Qualex (photofinishing); Hutch Sports USA (sporting goods equipment); Nelson/Weather-Rite (camping and outdoor products); and Willow Hosiery (athletic and family hosiery). These Actava companies together with DP provide high-quality, brand-name consumer products through distribution channels in the sports, fitness and recreation areas. Another member of The Actava Group is Snapper, which manufactures and markets premium quality lawn care and garden products.
