JAMES H. KEYES ELECTED CHAIRMAN OF JOHNSON CONTROLS

 MILWAUKEE, Jan. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Johnson Controls, Inc. (NYSE: JCI) today announced that its board of directors has elected James H. Keyes to the position of chairman of the board. Keyes will also retain his positions as president and chief executive officer of the company.
 The announcement was made at the company's annual stockholders meeting today in Milwaukee.
 Keyes succeeds Fred L. Brengel, 69, who served as chairman since 1985 and as president and chief executive officer from 1967 until 1988. Brengel announced his retirement from the position at today's board meeting. He will remain on the board as a director.
 Keyes, 52, joined Johnson Controls as a systems analyst in 1966. He was named treasurer and corporate controller in 1973 and became vice president of the company's Controls Group in 1984. In 1985 he was elected executive vice president and chief operating officer and became a member of the board of directors. He was elected president in 1986 and chief executive officer in 1988.
 He received a bachelor of science degree from Marquette University in 1962 and a masters degree in business administration from Northwestern University in 1963. He is a certified public accountant.
 Keyes is a member of the board of directors of Firstar Trust Company; Firstar Bank; Universal Foods Corporation; LSI Logic Corporation; Children's Hospital of Wisconsin; Medical College of Wisconsin; Junior Achievement of Wisconsin; the United Performing Arts Fund; and is a member of the Marquette University Board of Trustees.
