 PARSIPPANY, N.J., April 24 /PRNewswire/ -- The board of directors of


Armco Inc. (NYSE: AS) today elected James F. Will president and chief operating officer of this specialty steels company. Armco's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Robert L. Purdum, relinquishes the title of president he has held since 1986. Will was the former president and chief executive officer of Cyclops Industries, Inc., acquired today by Armco.
 "I am pleased to welcome Jim Will into the Armco family," Purdum said. "As an experienced and well-known leader in the steel industry, Jim brings to us invaluable operational knowledge and expertise as we integrate these two companies. He will be accountable for all business unit activities and will be responsible for leading our effort to become the leader in the specialty steels industry."
 Will, 52, spent more than 10 years with the United States Steel Corporation before moving to Kaiser Steel Corporation in 1972 as a plant general superintendent. He became president and chief operating officer of Kaiser, and left them to join Cyclops in 1982. A native of Pittsburgh, Will attended Saint Vincent College and Pennsylvania State University, earning a degree in engineering, and received an MBA degree from Duquesne University. He is married and has two daughters.
 Armco Inc. is a producer of stainless, electrical and carbon steels, steel products and grinding systems used in mining and mineral processing. A major joint venture produces coated, high strength and low-carbon flat-rolled steels.
 In addition to more stainless, electrical and carbon steel capacity, its recent acquisition adds steel tubular products, special alloys and fabrication and erection of non-residential construction products to its business portfolio.
