 FROM NEW 18TH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT
PITTSBURGH, March 20 /PRNewswire/ -- James A. West Jr. today announced his candidacy for the Democratic Party nomination for the U.S. House of Representatives seat from the new 18th Congressional District of Pennsylvania.
West, a 36-year-old developer, made his announcement at a gathering of his supporters in Etna, Pa.
"I've lived and worked in what is now the 18th District for virtually my entire life," said West. "The people of this district are just tremendous, and I'm thankful to them for the opportunities I've been given to achieve my own little part of the great American dream.
"Through my candidacy for Congress, I hope to be able to give something back to the district. I want to help make sure that all of the people of the 18th District, and their children and their children's children, have the same opportunities that I had to pursue their own dreams."
A native of the Pittsburgh area, West began working as a carpenter at age 16. He studied business and accounting at the McKeesport, Pa., campus of Penn State University, and he founded a residential- development company at age 21. West also has been active in many community-service projects and organizations in the Pittsburgh area. He currently serves on the boards of directors of the Pace School, the Three Rivers Regatta, his local library and community center, and the Home Builders Association of Metropolitan Pittsburgh.
