JAGUAR ANNOUNCES NEW YEAR SALES BOOST

MAHWAH, N.J., Feb. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Jaguar Cars Ltd, the Coventry based luxury car manufacturer, announces it has started 1993 with encouraging sales increases in all its major markets.
In the U.S., Jaguar's most important market, retail sales during January 1993 were 30 percent up from January 1992 at 818 units compared with 631 in January 1992. In the UK, Jaguar sales were 24 percent up from January last year, while the major markets of Germany and Japan registered gains of 84 percent and 73 percent respectively.
With results still to come from a handful of smaller markets, Jaguar is expecting a worldwide total of around 2190 sales in January, 25 percent up from the 1758 cars sold during the corresponding month last year.
Commenting on the January sales figures Nick Scheele, chairman and chief executive of Jaguar said, "We saw an improvement in demand in the United States and United Kingdom during the latter months of 1992 and I am pleased to see that this trend has continued and given us an encouraging start to 1993.
"An excellent reputation for our 1993 model year cars coupled with our ever-improving reputation for quality and reliability are the main driving forces behind the sales increase. Our new V12 sedan which goes on sale in March should help us consolidate this improvement."
