JACOBS TO PROVIDE PILOT PLANT EXPANSION FOR ELI LILLY AND COMPANY

CINCINNATI, Dec. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. (NYSE: JEC) announced today that it will provide Eli Lilly and Company preliminary and detailed engineering (including constructability reviews and comprehensive procurement support) for a chemical pilot plant expansion in Indianapolis. The engineering will be performed in Jacobs' Cincinnati office.
The contract amount was not disclosed.
Modules of the pilot plant are being designed and constructed to occupy an area of the building which was left "shelled out" from the original building construction. The new modules will provide additional capability for research and development operations including process development and the production of bulk pharmaceutical products for clinical trials. Cleanable rooms, with airlocks, showers, and gowning and degowning areas will also be provided.
John Mc Lachlan, group vice president of Jacobs stated, "The facility is being designed to handle potent compounds. Barrier technology (such as gloveboxes) and uniform containers will be utilized for handling pharmaceutical powders."
The process capability to be provided is very broad in order to allow flexibility for future processes. Vessels will be a mixture of glass-lined and high alloy materials.
Finally, state-of-the-art capability for product separation and drying will be provided which minimizes manual intervention.
