 JACOBS RECEIVES THIRD CONTRACT FOR
DOE'S OFFICE OF CIVILIAN RADIOACTIVE WASTE MANAGEMENT
PASADENA, Calif., Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. (NYSE: JEC) announced today that it has received a multiyear contract with Roy F. Weston Inc. for technical services in support of the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) program to accept, transport, store and permanently dispose of the nation's civilian spent fuel and defense high-level radioactive waste.
This contract is the third consecutive award since 1983 to the Weston team. Jacobs estimates its portion of this five-year contract at approximately $8 million.
Specific tasks for the team include rendering advice, assistance and recommendations to the DOE's Office of Civilian Radioactive Waste Management (OCRWM) in establishing, monitoring and maintaining overall program requirements; reviewing implementation plans and baselines; and supporting policy analyses and interactions with program participants and other public and private institutions.
OCRWM was established by the Nuclear Waste Policy Act of 1982. Since the first nuclear power plant began operations in the 1950s, spent nuclear fuel has been accumulating at the nation's nuclear plants. The Nuclear Waste Policy Act charged the DOE with accepting and providing for the permanent disposal of this waste, and carrying out this mission in a manner that protects public and worker health and safety and the quality of the environment.
Jacobs Engineering Group, headquartered in Pasadena, provides single-source consulting, engineering, design, architectural, environmental and hazardous waste management, procurement, construction, construction management, contract maintenance and operations services to government and industry worldwide. Jacobs has 23 offices located throughout the United States and Ireland.
