JACOBS RECEIVES CONTRACT FOR FATTY ACIDS STILL FROM WITCO CORP.

JACOBS RECEIVES CONTRACT FOR FATTY ACIDS STILL FROM WITCO CORP.
PASADENA, Calif., Jan. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. (NYSE: JEC) announced today the receipt of a contract from Witco Corp. to provide detailed engineering services for a new multimillion dollar fatty acids production still at Witco's Humko Chemical Division plant in Memphis, Tenn.
The value of Jacobs' contract was not disclosed.
The announcement was made by Jacobs' Group Vice President Alvin S. Rapp who said Jacobs will provide process, control systems, electrical, mechanical, civil/structural and piping engineering and design for the new unit.
Fatty acids are used to produce a variety of personal care products such as soaps and detergents and various specialty chemicals.
"Because the new fatty acid production unit and its associated equipment will have to be 'shoehorned' into the middle of a very confined working space within the plant, another of Jacobs' specialized services -- our offsite design and construction expertise -- will help Witco," Rapp said.
This offsite design and construction approach allows the production unit to be constructed at a remote assembly facility. The unit is then shipped to the site and erected at the operating plant.
Jacobs' Orangeburg, S.C., offsite construction facilities will be utilized to assemble the modules for the plant.
"Our ability to offer a full-service engineering/offsite construction and erection capability is one of the reasons why Witco chose Jacobs for this job," Rapp said. "The other was our years of experience with fatty acids process technology."
Jacobs Engineering Group Inc., headquartered in Pasadena, provides single-source consulting, engineering, design, architectural, environmental and hazardous waste management, procurement, construction, construction management, contract maintenance and operations services to government and industry worldwide.
