JACOBS PROVIDES ENGINEERING SERVICES
FOR CELTRIX LABS FACILITY
PASADENA, Calif., Nov. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. (NYSE: JEC) announced today the receipt of a contract to provide engineering and design of the manufacturing area for a new multi- million dollar facility for Celtrix Laboratories, Inc. in Santa Clara, Calif.
The announcement was made by Jacobs' Group Vice President Gerald L. Stevenson who said that Celtrix, a biopharmaceutical company, plans to produce recombinant (genetically engineered) products, as well as move its entire company to the new facility. Celtrix develops therapeutic products based on naturally occurring, cell- regulating proteins. The new facility is scheduled for completion in April 1992.
Jacobs' engineers will provide process flowsheets and the detailed design of the facility's manufacturing area. This area is part of an overall 69,000-square-foot biotech facility project, including laboratory and office space, which is being managed by Ehrlich-Rominger, architects and engineers.
The Celtrix facility requires ultra-clean manufacturing areas, Stevenson said. Jacobs' specialized expertise with air, water and exhaust utility systems within such ultra-clean areas is an important part of this project.
According to Stevenson, the project follows a number of similar contracts from pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies awarded to Jacobs over the past five years. "Jacobs has an excellent track record of taking preliminary engineering concepts for unique, emerging technologies in the pharmaceutical and biotech fields and scaling up these concepts into complete production facilities," he said.
Jacobs has been a leader in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology arena since the company's founding in 1947. "This level of expertise is resident in our senior engineering staff. This experience, along with the commitment of Jacobs' management to a quality job, was an important consideration in securing this contract," Stevenson added.
As a part of this commitment, Jacobs recently acquired Camargo Associates (1990) and Triad Technologies (1991) -- companies which specialize in providing services to the biopharmaceutical industry. These acquisitions have significantly enhanced the company's skills in consulting engineering, process design and qualification/validation services, the Jacobs executive said.
Jacobs Engineering Group Inc., headquartered in Pasadena, provides single-source consulting, engineering, design, architectural, environmental and hazardous waste management, procurement, construction, construction management, contract maintenance and operation services to government and industry worldwide. Jacobs has 24 offices located throughout the United States and Ireland.
