JACOBS MAKES EXPERT SYSTEM PROGRAM AVAILABLE
 TO THE ENTIRE PROCESS INDUSTRY
ORANGEBURG, S.C., March 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Jacobs Engineering Group (NYSE: JEC) announced that it plans to make its off-site (modular) construction expert system available to the industry at large. This program screens process projects in order to determine the benefits of building all or a portion of a project away from the ultimate plant site.
The ACT Expert System is widely used within Jacobs to screen projects for off-site construction suitability. The program was developed by Jacobs Applied Technology, a Jacobs subsidiary in Orangeburg. The rules and criteria built into this computer program represent some 15 years of off-site construction know-how and experience.
The Jacobs Applied Technology operation specializes in engineering and off-site construction of process plants.
Off-site construction approaches are significantly different today than those practiced a decade ago. According to J. Daniel Whisenhunt, Jacobs Applied Technology's president, off-site construction continues to make advances in all major process and industrial projects daily. "The ACT Expert System makes it extremely easy to screen a new project for off-site construction applications," he added.
The United States process industries continue to face escalating project costs, declining construction productivity and slipping quality. Construction safety is also extremely important. As a result, business managers are searching for alternative design and construction approaches. Off-site construction can be a viable option in solving these issue.
In 1989, Jacobs Applied Technology published the reference text on off-site construction applications. The book, "Advanced Construction Technology - Modular Design in Today's Process Industry" is available from Jacobs.
