JACOBS ENGINEERING GROUP SELECTED BY CONOCO AND PENNZOIL PRODUCTS TO INITIATE FEASIBILITY STUDY

HOUSTON, May 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. (NYSE: JEC) announced today that it was selected by Conoco and Pennzoil Products Co. to initiate a study to explore the feasibility of constructing a new, state-of-the-art lube oil facility at Conoco's Lake Charles, La., refinery.
If the companies reach a decision to proceed, the proposed project would increase the refinery's capacity to process heavy sour crude oil by 100,000 barrels per day, of which 14,000 barrels would be produced as high quality base oils, the basic ingredient needed to manufacture lubricants.
Although a design study and cost estimate by Jacobs will not be completed until the end of 1993, it is estimated the multimillion dollar project could take 33 months to build, generate 3,500 construction jobs during peak construction and create 250 permanent jobs.
A spokesperson for Conoco and Pennzoil said Lake Charles was the primary site being considered for the project because of the existing refining infrastructure and positive business climate that currently exists within the state.
Conoco is the energy subsidiary of Du Pont. Pennzoil Products Co. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Pennzoil Co.
