JACOBS ENGINEERING/HUMPHREYS & GLASGOW RECEIVE $22.5 MILLION THAMES WATER AWARD

SOMERSET, N.J., March 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. (NYSE: JEC) announced today that its subsidiary, Anglian Humphreys & Glasgow Ltd. (AH&G), received a $22.5 million contract award from Thames Water for a 25 ton per day Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) reactivation plant to be built at Kempton Park, Middlesex, United Kingdom. This will be the third such plant to be built by AH&G. Based in Stockport, AH&G is a 50/50 joint venture between Anglian Water plc and the Jacobs Engineering Group subsidiary Humphreys and Glasgow Processing Contracting Ltd.
This contract, which was won after highly competitive tendering, firmly establishes AH&G as the United Kingdom leader in this field. The scope of work includes design, procurement, construction and commissioning. The design has already started, and the plant is scheduled to come into production in early 1995.
GAC is being used increasingly by the water industry to improve the quality of drinking water. It is particularly effective at removing herbicides and pesticides while also improving the taste and odor of water.
The energy efficiency of AH&G's reactivation process has been optimized and raises internally all the steam required for the process.
AH&G also has three plants in service using its new GAC Adsorption process and is currently designing and building an additional eight GAC adsorption plants in the United Kingdom for the removal of pesticides from water. The AH&G adsorption process minimizes carbon losses in service and maximizes carbon life between reactivations.
