JACOBS AWARDED FRONT-END STUDY FOR $300 MILLION THAILAND POTASH MINE AND MILL COMPLEX

& PASADENA, Calif., Aug. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Jacobs Engineering Group

Inc. (NYSE: JEC) announced today that it has been selected by ASEAN

(Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Potash Mining Co. Ltd. of Bangkok, Thailand, to revise a feasibility study for a major multimillion dollar potash mine and mill complex near Bamnet Narong, Chaiyashum Province, Kingdom of Thailand.
Jacobs' primary task is to prepare the preliminary design for the hot crystallization process and associated infrastructure, along with an estimate of the capital and operating costs. The remaining portions of the feasibility study document will also be reviewed and updated.
The revised study, to be called a "bankable document," includes ore reserve analyses, geological evaluation, recommended mining methods, mine design, process development and plant design, surface facilities and infrastructure, hydrological and environmental factors, finances, capital and operating cost estimates, projected sales and marketing analyses.
It is estimated that the cost of the mine, mill and infrastructure will exceed $300 million.
The Bamnet Narong potash project will involve an underground mine, including two decline portals, which will exploit one of the important features of the Southern Khorat Plateau evaporite deposit: its shallow depth.
The Bamnet Narong potash plant is designed to produce 1 million metric tons of fertilizer-grade muriate of potash annually, utilizing recent advances in crystallization processing. Jacobs has extensive worldwide experience in this specialty. Specialists in potash mining and financial analysis are also assisting Jacobs as subconsultants.
ASEAN is an organization composed of six member states (Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Singapore) to foster economic growth in that area of the world. The project will be Thailand's major ASEAN project and is expected to be a main contributor to the continuing economic growth of Thailand.
