JACK IN THE BOX ACTS ON HEALTH DEPARTMENT ADVISORY

SEATTLE, Jan. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Although it is unclear as to the source of an illness linked to undercooked beef, JACK IN THE BOX announced today that it has taken measures to ensure all menu items are prepared in accordance with an advisory issued yesterday by the Washington State Department of Health.
Upon learning of the problem, JACK IN THE BOX immediately contacted each of its 60 restaurants within the state to ensure that ground-meat products were being fully and properly cooked.
"We are very concerned by the incidents of this illness in the state of Washington and are cooperating fully with state health authorities," said Paul Schultz, JACK IN THE BOX vice president.
According to the Washington State Department of Health, some but not all of the persons being treated for the illness had eaten at area JACK IN THE BOX restaurants, as well as other restaurants, several days before developing symptoms.
Although health officials have not confirmed JACK IN THE BOX food as a source for the illness, the company is moving ahead to take all possible steps to protect restaurant guests.
"We have thoroughly inspected the grill system in each restaurant and have held special meetings with restaurant personnel to ensure compliance with the company's food preparation procedures," Schultz said.
