JACK DANIEL'S SEEKS AMATEUR BARBECUE JUDGES FOR FOURTH ANNUAL CONTEST
LYNCHBURG, Tenn., Aug. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Folks at the Jack Daniel Distillery are anxiously awaiting the annual deluge of letters from people wanting to taste their world famous ... barbecue? Yes, barbecue.
It's almost time for the Fourth Annual Jack Daniel's World Championship Invitational Barbecue, and the Distillery has opened the call for amateur judges.
On October 24, more than 30 championship barbecue teams from across the country and around the world will vie for $10,000 in prize money in Lynchburg, Tenn., home of the Jack Daniel Distillery.
The contest will be judged by 15 amateurs and 15 celebrities. Amateur judges are chosen from self-proclaimed barbecue experts across the country, and anyone who drops a note to the distillery will be considered.
"Each year, the call for judges is getting to be more and more popular, and folks go all out telling why they should be picked to judge," said Frank "Frog" Bobo, pitmaster of ceremonies. "It seems that everyone wants to come to Lynchburg to see the town and taste some of the finest barbecue around."
Anyone interested in being considered as an amateur judge should drop a brief note explaining why they should be selected to: Frank Bobo, The Jack Daniel Distillery, Lynchburg, Tenn., 37352. Send before September 1, and be sure to include a full name, address and phone number.
"Folks should come down even if they're not chosen to judge because we're having a real hometown festival, it's not all barbecue either. We'll have pig races, cracker whistling contests, ghost story telling in Motlow's cave and everyone's favorite event, the country dog contest," said Bobo.
While Bobo isn't eligible to compete for the championship, he does have his own thoughts about how to make good barbecue. "Making good barbecue," said Bobo, "is like living in Lynchburg ... you have to take it slow and easy."
