J.R. SIMPLOT AND ENVIROGEN FORM COLLABORATIVE MARKETING ARRANGEMENT FOR ENVIRONMENTAL REMEDIATION

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J., June 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Envirogen, Inc. (NASDAQ: ENVG) and the Minerals and Chemical Group of the J.R. Simplot Company today announced the signing of a collaborative marketing agreement for the bioremediation of certain environmentally hazardous compounds.
The five-year agreement calls for the two companies to jointly market J.R. Simplot's proprietary technology. The anaerobic biological process technology bioremediates soils and sludges contaminated with nitroaromatics found in such compounds as explosives and pesticides, and in particular the explosive TNT and the herbicide dinoseb. Nitroaromatics have become serious environmental problems at many military installations worldwide where explosives are used and in agriculture areas where pesticides and herbicides have been in widespread use.
Under the terms of the non-exclusive agreement, in addition to the joint marketing efforts, Envirogen will be responsible for customer contract administration and for site preparation, management and closure while Simplot will be responsible for technology input and overview. The University of Idaho will continue to provide technology assistance and improvements. Preliminary plans call for three field evaluations of the technology this summer, one of which is in conjunction with the EPA's Emerging Technology Program.
The J.R. Simplot Company is one of the world's largest privately held agribusiness corporations. The Minerals and Chemical Group is one of the nation's leading producers of dry and liquid fertilizers, and industrial chemicals.
Envirogen is an innovative environmental biotechnology company dedicated to the business of discovering, developing, and applying new and effective solutions to the task of degrading or transforming toxic and hazardous wastes. The company also designs and implements vapor extraction systems under the tradename VAPEX and other integrated systems for the on-site treatment of organic contaminants from soils and groundwater.
