J.B. HUNT TRANSPORT SERVICES, INC., REPORTS REVENUES AND EARNINGS FOR THIRD QUARTER 1993

LOWELL, Ark., Oct. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- J.B. Hunt Transport Services, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: JBHT), announced revenues and earnings for the third quarter ended Sept. 30, 1993.
Consolidated revenues for the third quarter of 1993 totaled $253.6 million, an increase of 5 percent over the $241.2 million for the third quarter of 1992. Revenue growth was negatively impacted by the number of idle tractors during the third quarter. Revenues for the quarter were reduced by approximately six percent due to a shortage of qualified drivers available to operate dry van tractors. Revenues also reflect continued growth in specialized carrier and intermodal operations.
Net earnings for the current quarter were reduced by $2.6 million, or 7 cents per share, to reflect the increased tax rate on current and deferred income taxes, effective retroactive to Jan. 1, 1993. Earnings before the change in the federal tax rate and the cumulative effect of a change in an accounting method were $11.4 million, or 30 cents per share, for the third quarter of 1993, compared with $10.7 million, or 30 cents per share, in 1992.
Revenues for the nine months ended Sept. 30, 1993, increased 14 percent to $761.2 million from $666.3 million for the comparable period in 1992. Earnings before the change in the federal tax rate and cumulative effect of a change in method of accounting were $29.9 million for the nine months ended Sept. 30, 1993, or 78 cents per share, compared with $27.1 million, or 77 cents per share, in 1992.
