   J. MICHAEL KELLY NAMED VICE PRESIDENT AND CONTROLLER FOR GTE
STAMFORD, Conn., Dec. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- GTE Corp. today announced that J. Michael Kelly has been named vice president and controller, effective immediately. He succeeds Bruce E. Haddad, who was named president of the Venezuelan telephone company, CANTV, earlier this month. A GTE-led consortium recently acquired operating control of CANTV.
Kelly, 35, will report to GTE Senior Vice President-Finance Nicholas L. Trivisonno. He will be responsible for GTE's corporate accounting and public reporting, auditing, and budgets and analysis functions as well as corporate information-management services and operations analysis.
Kelly joined GTE in March 1991 as vice president-finance and business development for its Telecommunications Products and Services Group, headquartered in Atlanta. This group comprises GTE's cellular-mobile communications, government systems, satellite services, air-to-ground communications and information services businesses.
Immediately prior to joining GTE, Kelly had been vice president and controller for Contel Corp., with which GTE merged in March 1991. Before that, he had been controller of Contel Federal Systems from 1988 to 1990. He joined Contel in 1987 as controller of the Applied Systems Division of Contel Federal Systems.
Before joining Contel, Kelly held financial positions with Planning Research Corporation and the CPA firm of Fried, Klausner and Georgeson.
He holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Gettysburg College, and completed studies in accounting at the University of Maryland. He is a certified public accountant.
Kelly and his family currently reside in Roswell, Ga., but will relocate to the Stamford area.
