Izzard in quest to run the country; 'My feet are disintegrating'.
COMEDIAN Eddie Izzard crossed the River Mersey as part of his mammoth challenge to run more than 1,000 miles around the UK.
The 47-year-old comic and film star is running 30miles a day for Sport Relief.
Izzard set off from London last month and over the last two days has been running through Merseyside.
Asked why he had decided to take on the adventure, Izzard, sporting bandaged feet, said: "I don't really know.
"I think running is very primal.
We used to hunt in this way. Anyone should be able to do this, it's not actually that complicated.
"It's a marathon a day and that's probably what people used to run and hunt something.
"I just do the same thing at the end. I just sort of spear a Twix and have a Diet Coke, it's that kind of thing. But it is slightly crazy and my feet are slightly disintegr ating.
"But I'll make it because I'm deter mined.
"My body isn't really determined, but my brain is."
On Tuesday, Izzard ran from Wrexham to Bromborough, through Chester and across the Wir ral.
Then, after an overnight stop, he started yesterday in Birkenhead, commandeering a fishing boat over the Mersey to Liverpool then up past Aintree and Ormskirk. After a jog down the A59, he finished at Tarleton.
Izzard is tweeting about his travels on the Twitter website, and fans have cheered him on along the way.
He said: "I'm just meeting people on the way, so it's really nice."
