IzetbegoviA: We will defend constitutional order and the rule of law in BiH.

Deputy Speaker of the House of Peoples of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly and President of the Democratic Action Party Bakir Izetbegovic, told reporters in Sarajevo today, commenting on yesterday's decision by the Republika Srpska political representatives, that he thought they would just be abstained in voting processes, " so we won't have any new decisions."

'I suspect that they would continue to exert pressure, and we will not be able to relent before that pressure. What happened is actually they tried to usurp, seize the land in Republika Srpska. In our appeal, the Constitutional Court thwarted such an attempt. They now demand that we actually weaken the Constitutional Court so that the RS authorities can make such decisions in the future. We will not do it,' Izetbegovic said.

According to him, the RS is trying to "choose what suits them, like from a 'buffet', and they ignore what is not to their liking. They try to remove it so as to allow the entity to actually dominate the state."

'We will not allow it at any cost. If necessary, there will be crisis again. In this state, the Constitution will be respected and the rule of law will be respected in this country,' Izetbegovic said.

He recalled that the whole of last year had been lost "in an attack on the rule of law, and it did not pass."

'The only thing that is good from this whole crisis is that the rule of law, that is, strategies, laws and everything else that has been accepted in the meantime, has to be respected,' said Izetbegovic.

Asked to comment on the announced meeting of SNSD and HDZ-BiH leaders Milorad Dodik and Dragan Covic this afternoon, Izetbegovic replied that he did not think there would be any problem stemming from the meeting with Covic.

'I would not say that Covic will choose to follow such adventures of Dodik. But we'll see if I'm wrong. We will defend the constitutional order in BiH and the rule of law. And so far there have been crises and all of them have been resolved. Those who produce these crises will endanger both their people and those who vote for them, and this country, unfortunately, will eventually turn into the land of the elderly, because young people will continue to leave,' said Izetbegovic.

Asked if changes to the Constitutional Court Law as such requested by the RS representatives, were even possible, he said they were not.

'When the Constitutional Court prevents the confiscation of the state land and property, then we are asked to destroy the Constitutional Court?! Why would we do such a thing? They obviously will continue with ultimatums. Well, let them do it if they can. We'll make sure that they cannot. Just as they realized last year that they could not stop NATO's path of BiH. So, the crisis will last for a month, six months, however long it takes and then they will realize they cannot succeed,' stressed Izetbegovic.

'We'll see what happens next. You cannot allow ultimatums to solve things in the country. We do not like the fact that we have the entity voting, that we have quotas within which Bosniaks who make up 50 percent of the population have to settle for 33 percent of power. We don't like having an entity division of the country either, but it's all one package that was agreed in the Dayton Agreement. Part of the Dayton agreement and part of that package is the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina as it is, with international judges,' concluded Izetbegovic.
