Italy : Vodafone, Wind to enter into a deal with Metroweb in Milan.

Vodafone Group PLC's unit in Italy and Wind Telecommunicazioni SpA is planning to enter into a deal with Metroweb SpA by October to utilize Metroweb's fiber-optic network in Milan. This would see the two mobile phone operators ultimately use a new one being planned by Metroweb for 30 other cities across Italy.

Currently, Vodafone and Wind, which is owned by Russia's VimpelCom Ltd provide services to their subscribers in Italy by using Telecom Italia SpA's copper-wire network.

Wind Chief Executive Maximo Ibarra said in the month before that the operator was working on to enhance its broadband services for mobile devices used by subscribers.

Fiber-optic cable enables fast delivery of these types of services.

The country's dominant telecommunications operator, Telecom Italia, is also planning to upgrade its network.

Metroweb refused to comment on the report and even Vodafone wasn't available for comment.
