Italy : ASTALDI bags 67m deal from Italian Rail Network.

Astaldi has secured a 67m deal from Italian Rail Network (RFI) to complete a project in an effort to raise capacity in Genoa, after its decision to withdraw the previous contract following the original consortium experienced financial problems.

It is anticipated that the Preliminary work would be commenced in the next few weeks with a view to finishing the project in 2020.

The project comprises of construction of the double-track Polcevera tunnel and completing two single-track tunnels between Genoa Piazza Principe and Brignole stations.

This would be offering four tracks between Genoa Voltri and Genoa Sampierdarena and six tracks between Piazza Principe and Brignole, allowing commuter trains to be separated from long-distance services. RFI added that this will not only raise capacity in Genoa but also develop consistency and regularity.
