Italian coverstock venture formed.

An Italian specialty paper group, Miliani Fabriano, in which the Istituto Poligratico e Zecca dello Strato has a controlling interest, has formed a new holding company with Soft S.p.a., Vercelli, Italy, a European manufacturer of thermal bonded polypropylene. The new joint venture is named Fabriano Soft S.p.a. and will produce a range of nonwovens for a variety of applications including coverstock, medical/hygiene, industrial and geotextiles. Soft S.p.A. presently produces 250 million square meters of polypropylene annually at its facility in Biella.

Along with the joint venture, an expansion program is also underway. The plan calls for the installation of three spunbonding lines at a new location in Peschiera Borromeo (Milan) and an additional line at Cerreto.
