Italian brands gearing up for Doha motor show.

The most prestigious names in Italian automotive design are returning to the Qatar Motor Show (QMS), the international event that will open to the public from January 25 to 28 at the Doha Exhibition Centre.

Following the success of the first edition, the Gruppo Carrozzieri Autovetture - ANFIA - Associazione Nazionale Filiera Industria Automobilistica (the Italian Association of the Automotive Industry) -- will make the collective presentation of 'Made in Italy' at QMS with some classics as well as interesting

innovations.

The event is organised by the Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) in collaboration with Q.media Events and GL Events with the support of the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor

al-Thani.

QMS will host concept cars, supercars, and prototypes. Five Italian brand names - Bertone, Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera, I DE A Institute, Pininfarina and UP Design - will be exhibiting their creations in a dedicated area.

Bertone, founded in 1912, is one of the oldest and most prestigious Italian firms in the automotive sector and has been on the forefront of technological and stylistic evolution throughout its first century of existence.

Over the years, leading manufacturers worldwide have entrusted Bertone with the creation of vehicles that are outstanding for their avant-garde style, technology, and performance.

Bertone will present at QMS 2012 the Jaguar B 99 (where the B stands for Bertone and 99 stands for the firm's age): a compact sedan that looks towards the future with refined elegance and classic signature features of the Jaguar name. Beginning with the classic three-volume architecture layout, Bertone designers have moulded a taut and muscular body, created completely in hand-wrought aluminium in homage to the long-standing tradition of Italian body workers.

The Jaguar B 99 also adopts a "pure" hybrid fuel system with extended autonomy perfected by Bertone Energia.

Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera has chosen QMS 2012 for the Middle East debut of its Gumpert Tornante, a super sporty roadster developed in collaboration with the German car manufacturer specialised in the construction of GT with extreme performances.

The chassis is made of top-quality and highly stable chrome-molybdenum-steel, while the impressive mid-engine V8 Biturbo of 700 Hp ensures performance and fascinating driving dynamics.

Combining a fully Italian sporty style with the best German engineering, the Tornante defines a new automotive class: fast touring. The aluminium coachwork is totally handmade in Milanese plants and it is completely customisable to meet the demands of the lucky owners.

Since 1926, Touring Superleggera is recognised worldwide as one of the iconic names in Italian car design and coach building.

The current range includes models produced in small series or unique pieces developed from such prestigious brands as Bentley and Maserati.

QMS 2012 will also offer an opportunity to discover the new challenge launched by the I DE A Institute, a development centre founded in 1978 by the entrepreneur Franco Mantegazza and the famous architect Renzo Piano, that applies a 'turnkey' logic to the entire life cycle of a model, from the concept to production.

The star is "Futura": a sporty elegant "sedan-coupe". The special features of this concept car are the large and protruding grille, the ultra-thin LED headlamps, the front mudguards that evoke vintage heights, and the particular rim on the side that draws the eye along the classic line to the high and tapered rear end. The mechanical specs boast a front-mounted 8-cylinder engine with optional front or rear wheel drive and, if desired, an integrated hybrid system.

In Qatar, Pininfarina will present "2uettottanta": a concept car to celebrate the company's 80th anniversary and, at the same time, pay homage to the "Casa del Biscione" by evoking the myth of the Duetto.

Elected "Car Design of the Year", the "2uettottanta" represents the innovative vision, projected into the third millennium, of the two-passenger convertible.

With a history dating back to 1930, Pininfarina is today one of the leading suppliers of products and services that stand true to the brand's founding values: creativity, expertise, and innovation. Its activities focus on design and engineering services, on sustainable mobility, and on the promotion of its own

brand name.

UP Design, founded in 2010 by Umberto Palermo with head offices in Torino, is the ultimate design centre for "Made in Italy". It stands for the innovative conception of a design studio, where the interpretation of the typical forms of Italian style meets the innovative capacity and the wide range of intervention settings.

The versatility of the content is a key point for UP Design, building its products around the human: from car design to lavish architecture, from niche products to everyday products.

In Qatar, UP Design will present something absolutely new: the world premier of the limited edition "Vittoria", a two-door sports car.

The realisation is reinforced by the partnership with Adler Group for innovation in components, with the engineering firm Vehicle Engineering & Design for a hybrid power train and with Landra for the creation of the physical model.

An artistic tribute offered by the painter Taraski combines design and art. The elements that will make Vittoria so special are still top secret, awaiting the launch set for next January.

The main sponsor of the 2012 Qatar Motor Show is Qatar Holding. The diamond sponsor is Qatar Shell, and the official hotel partner is the W Doha Hotel & Residences.
