WEST BOYLSTON -- The owner of Gerardo's Italian Bakery said he has a video of a man who broke into the bakery early Wednesday morning and made off with a substantial amount of money.
Gerardo Sarli, who has owned the bakery at 339 West Boylston St. for 20 years, said the brazen robbery was captured on the 20 surveillance cameras situated throughout the business.
"You can see it as clear as day,'' said Mr. Sarli, who added the perpetrator was in the bakery for "exactly 21 minutes (and he was) nonchalantly walking around. He looks like he knows what he's doing. For him to not have a mask on, it seems to me he's not from this area.''
The alleged thief broke the bolts on the double doors of the bakery to gain entry.
He made off with more than $2,000 in cash and jewelry, Mr. Sarli said. Clerks discovered the thefts when they came to work at 7:30 a.m.
The burglar is described as a white man with a light-brown goatee and mustache, wearing a baseball cap and a jogging suit.
Mr. Sarli said the alarm system at the business had been in disrepair for the past month. It was being repaired Wednesday.
"We want to get his picture out there because we don't want this to happen to anybody else,'' he said.
Anyone with information about the robbery should contact West Boylston Police, (508) 835-3233.
