It is end of a corrupt era: JI.

LAHORE -- Secretary General, Jamaat e Islami, Liaqat Baloch, has said that the departure of Asif Ali Zardari from the presidency was a happy occasion because the outgoing president had been a cause of shame and humiliation for the country and the nation.

In a statement here on Sunday, he said that Mr Zardari and his coterie had set new record of corruption and provided protection to the plunderers under the cover of the notorious NRO. They brought disgrace to the country through a policy of continuous confrontation with the judiciary.

Zardari during his five year rule, was unable to unearth the killers of his wife, a former Prime Minister of the country. The Zardari regime not only saw off Pervez Musharraf, also a national villain, with guard of honour but also faithfully followed his policies contrary to the country's independence, sovereignty and security.

During the Zardari tenure, the judgments of the Supreme Court were mocked at and the corrupt members of the cabinet were given protection by the presidency. Major national institutions such as PIA, Railways, Steel mills and WAPDA were driven to the point of destruction.
