It's time to get out of the sun.

Byline: BUZZWORTHY by The Register-Guard

Each year around early July, it seems that things on the music scene kinda quiet down for a few weeks. Between Art and the Vineyard and the Oregon Country Fair, the area's musical energy gets transplanted out of the clubs and onto some popular outdoor stages.

Now that musical vibe has moved back indoors, and this weekend a lot of it will be centered down in the Whiteaker neighborhood, when Sam Bond's Garage celebrates its 10th anniversary.

Of course, not all the tunes will be at Sam Bond's. Melissa Ferrick will hold court tonight at John Henry's. Suzanne Vega and Marc Cohn will team up for a night of singer-songwriters on Saturday at the McDonald. Keri Noble, who played the McDonald last spring as the opener for Jonny Lang, is back in town, this time at Cozmic Pizza on Wednesday.

That same night, the WOW Hall will get down and funky with the return of the Hieroglyphics hip-hop crew, featuring the man with our favorite hip-hop name, Del the Funky Homosapien, as well as Casual, Pep Love and the Souls of Mischief.

Meanwhile, at the multiplexes, we have the second film release of the summer from the hardest working Scot in show biz, Ewan McGregor. Last seen battling Anakain Skywalker in "Star Wars: Episode 3 - The Revenge of the Sith," he's now running around with Scarlett Johansson in the new sci-fi thriller "The Island."

We're not joking about that "hardest working Scot" thing, either. McGregor has 26 feature film credits to his name - not including TV or voice-over work - since his big-screen debut, "Being Human," in 1993.

He has another film - his third of 2005 - called "Stay" that's due in October, according to the Internet Movie Database ( Another, "Flora Plum" is in production and yet another, "Stormbreaker" is in pre-production.

It looks as if the acting force is with him, after all.
