It's the land of the rising look today.

Byline: By Suhaine Stevens

With flights to Dubai set to take off this autumn, the Far East will be easier to get to than ever, and will become increasingly influential.

So this week we take a look at how you can achieve that Japanese look.

Amanda Chan, 21, from Sunderland, is a waitress at the new sushi restaurant that's opened in Fenwick, Newcastle. Originally from Hong Kong, Amanda has lived in the North East since she was a child.

Our first port of call to create that Far East style was the Lancome counter at Boots, Eldon Square. Here make-up artist Reine Thurston created a dramatic evening look, emphasising the eyes with Cils Design Pro, which defines and lengthens the lashes, creating a custom-design lash effect. Reine used a neutral colour on the lips with a touch of lip gloss to create a modern, polished look.

We then headed back to Fenwick, where luxurious silks and kimono-style dresses were definitely the order of the day.

Our first outfit consisted of a black and cream dress by Oasis, which had a lovely high waist and a delicate floral print. The dress is perfect for summer weather and emphasised Amanda's slender figure. We added a chunky pair of black Carvela heels to add a modern feel to the outfit.

Then Amanda modeled a classic kimono-style dress from Lipsy in black and ivory. The plunging V neckline created a flirty fun look and the dress would be an ideal choice for a summer evening.

Amanda finally modelled a simple grey kimono jumper with a pair of classic straight-cut grey linen trousers. Over this we added a beautiful embroidered obi belt ( the obi being a Japanese sash worn traditionally over a kimono. Simply adding the obi belt gave the outfit a sense of tradition and timeless elegance.

Amanda was really impressed with the clothes from Fenwick. She particularly liked the grey kimono-style jumper as it paid homage to the Japanese culture but with a modern twist.

Amanda said "I've really enjoyed trying on all the outfits and seeing how you can incorporate items with a Japanese influence while still maintaining a modern, wearable look."
