It's hair raising.

Actress Jill Halfpenny is one of a host of stars who helped inspire a charity's bad hair day.

The Geordie star features in photographer Nick Johnston's Bad Hair Day book and has proved the inspiration for ChildLine.

The charity is hoping that on October 28, people across the country will sport a silly style or wear a wayward `do' to work.

Chairwoman Esther Rantzen said: "Everyone dreads a bad hair day ( and I'm no exception.

"On Bad Hair Day we will be celebrating limp and lifeless locks, drooping fringes and wayward tufts, in the knowledge that it's all in a good cause."

To take part call 020 7650 3399 for a fundraising pack. Copies of Bad Hair Day, priced pounds 4.99, are available by calling the orderline on (01948) 831084.
