It's cannon and balls; WORLD OF FOOTBALL.

Byline: KEVIN McALLION

CATANIA president Pietro Lo Monaco has put on the war paint after star striker Giuseppe Mascara suffered sickening abuse from Fiorentina fans.

Mascara angered the Florentines during Catania's 3-1 defeat by making a gesture to them after scoring the equaliser.

The fans responded with a series of chants about the player and his family.

But a furious Lo Monaco insisted they overstepped the mark. He raged: "The chants towards Giuseppe and his family were an embarrassment. You can't shoot flies with cannons, putting players in the middle."

I doubt we'll hear a stranger quote than that all season.
