It's Hazel beers as MP saves pub.

Byline: STEPHEN HAYWARD

FORMER Cabinet minister Hazel Blears is helping to reopen a derelict pub.

The MP and other locals plan to buy a stake in the boozer and run it themselves.

The communitystyle pub will provide catering training courses and apprenticeships as well as drinks.

The Woolpack in her constituency in Salford, Greater Manchester, closed 18 months ago.

Locals will apply for part a pounds 4million rescue fund set up by the Government last month to save pubs hit by t h e r e c e s s i o n a n d competition from cheap supermarket booze.

E x -C o m m u n i t i e s Secretary Mrs Blears, who quit the Government over the expenses scandal last year, said: "I can see myself pulling pints.

"We want to keep the spirit of the old pub with local people being able to enjoy a sing-song and a knees-up."
