It's 1-0 to Cardiff City - in the pop charts at least.

PORTSMOUTH might be the bookies' favourite to win on Saturday - but they've lost the battle of the FA Cup footie anthems.

The Bluebirds' official FA Cup final song sold more copies than any other single in the UK, thrashing Pompey's (unofficial) effort which failed to make it into the singles chart yesterday.

With five days to go until the final, City singer James Fox was today celebrating the team's latest success, and said: "It looks like we're 1-0 up!"

James' record, Bluebirds Flying High, sold more than 8,000 copies, while nearest chart rivals Madonna, pictured, and Scooter sold about 4,000 to 5,000 copies apiece.

Bluebirds fans had hoped that the record would reach the top spot, but with downloads taken intoaccount, the City single yesterdaywent in at number 15.

"If the chart was like yesteryear, we would have got to number one but it's still amazing," said devoted City fan James.

Bargoed-born James was sitting outside Conti's bar in Cardiff'sMill Lane withmum Tina and friends when he was told the news.

"We're ecstatic," said James, who has been staying with his mum in the Valleys, and last week busked in the city centre with Cardiff City striker Steve Thompson.

"It's a top 15 hit and we've only sold it in Cardiff and South Wales with no record label."

He added: "This is all just trimmings for me. I'm just a Cardiff fanwho can't wait for Saturday.

"The whole thing has been a dream."

Pompey's unofficial song, Dave Angel's cover of James' Laid, failed to make it into the top 40 and James admitted: "I don't even knowwhat Pompey'ssong is called so it looks like we're one-nil up already!"

Last night, City fans logged on to the official message board to congratulate the singer, who is taking hismumand girlfriend to Wembley - and hopes fans will be singing his song.
