Israeli Blackhawk EW contract awarded. (Middle East Report).
Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI) subsidiary Elta Electronic Industries (Tel Aviv, Israel) has won tender to supply missile-approach-warning systems for the 24 new Sikhorsky S-55 A-40 model Blackhawk combat transport helicopters the Israeli Air Force (IAF) purchased earlier this year for $212 million. Elta reportedly beat out rival Elisra on the missile-warner deal, which is worth about $6 million. The IAF will procure countermeasures systems for the new Blackhawks separately.
Israel already operates 25 Blackhawks. Ten of these are UH-60 models acquired surplus from the US and 15 are new-build S-55 A-50 models.
In related news, as JED went to press, Elta had reportedly reached a deal to acquire a 30% stake in Elisra based on a valuation of the latter company at $330 million.
