Islamic calligraphy show opens tomorrow.

ISLAMABAD, March 01, 2012 (Balochistan Times): Eminent artist Muhammad Azeem Iqbal will display Islamic calligraphies in a solo show here on March 1 at Louvre gallery with portrayal of messages of peace and harmony through Quran. Iqbals masterpieces of calligraphy capture the golden period of Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) to different eras of Islamic civilizations to the present century. He skilfully employs various mediums like leather, stone, wood, bamboo, gold, bronze, copper and hand crafted paper using Aabe Zamzam to create beautiful pieces. The panels he display are the example of crafty art, while the masterly executed calligraphy lines, sculptural and monumental innovations and antiquity is symbolized by the touch of wood and the sanctity imbued with Aab-e-Zamzam The stress is less on the structural variations then on the meanings of the written words which are used primarily to express feelings, emotions, thoughts, wishes, desires, commands and pleasure. Islamic Calligraphies have strong components of communicative vehicles in the shape of its words in all the known languages of the world, which is governed by strict rules. The observance of these rules enable the word to achieve its utilitarian function: that is to communicate, said curator of the gallery, Aleena. For the pure visual effect like an orientalist, Azeem has used numerous traditional arts to embellish his work. These decorative arts are used not only to visualize beauty of the works but also to conducively capture the spirit of the written words. Azeems calligraphies are decorated with floral and geometrical patterns in the oriental tradition. The technique of collage is used in the broader sense to complete a crafty art panel. Muhammad Azeem Iqbal is a self-taught artist. He gets his inspiration from nature and he believes that calligraphy is a field of love and devotion. My creative calligraphy art portrays divine rhythmic beauty and exaltation in the spiritual domain. I am a self taught artist taking my inspiration from nature and believe that calligraphy is a field of love and devotion, said Azeem Iqbal. I have introduced a unique and new dimensional style in the Islamic Calligraphy covering the golden era of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) to the present century, he said.
