Isla Fisher says her latest character could be a role model for shopaholics in these cash-strapped times.

The Australian actress plays fashion-obsessed spendthrift Becky Bloomwood in Confessions of a Shopaholic, the big-screen adaptation of Sophie Kinsella's best-selling novel.

Fisher, who first endeared herself to UK viewers when she appeared in Aussie soap Home and Away, had to juggle the demands of filming with motherhood after having her first child with Borat creator Sacha Baron Cohen.

She said her character's spending habits would not necessarily put off viewers struggliung to cope with the credit crunch.

Fisher said Becky "is someone who is focussed at the start of the movie a little too much on the outside - but she learns her lesson".

"I think she's a really endearing person. I'd like to think she's a positive role model - once she stops compulsively shopping and lying to her friends and family."
