Is this a first?

Thornhill, ON -- The local tabloid in Thornhill, ON, has a very unpromising name--it is called "The Liberal." However, the front page of its May 27, 2004, edition showed a possibly un-liberal headline; Pill hard to swallow: pro-lifers. Regular readers may well have wondered who were these "pro-lifers." This expression has very much fallen out of use among the media who prefer the more negative sobriquet "anti-abortionist." Kudos to "The Liberal."

The article concerned comments by Janet Smith, president of Newmarket and District Right to Life, on the decision by Health Minister Pierre Pettigrew, to make the "morning-after pill" available to women without prescription.
