Is this a first?
Thornhill, ON -- The local tabloid in Thornhill, ON, has a very unpromising name--it is called "The Liberal." However, the front page of its May 27, 2004, edition showed a possibly un-liberal headline; Pill hard to swallow: pro-lifers. Regular readers may well have wondered who were these "pro-lifers." This expression has very much fallen out of use among the media who prefer the more negative sobriquet "anti-abortionist." Kudos to "The Liberal."The article concerned comments by Janet Smith, president of Newmarket and District Right to Life, on the decision by Health Minister Pierre Pettigrew, to make the "morning-after pill" available to women without prescription.
