Is Ayo leaving DLSU for UST?

DE LA SALLE said Aldin Ayo is staying as the Green Archers' head coach. But a report at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) camp said otherwise.

The Varsitarian, UST's official student publication, reported that Ayo looked headed to Espana in a recent article headlined 'UST backers in talks with La Salle coach Aldin Ayo to transfer to UST Growling Tigers.'

Ayo's supposed change of heart to move to UST reportedly came after Christmas Day and official statements from both De La Salle and UST are expected anytime soon to confirm Ayo's transfer.

Ayo failed to steer De La Salle to a second straight University Athletic Association of the Philippines men's basketball crown, losing to Ateneo de Manila in three games in the finals.

Speculations that he was on the way out sprouted after the loss to the Blue Eagles, but Ayo refused to make any confirmation.

'I don't want to comment on the issue,' Ayo told the reporters after their Game Three loss on December 3. 'Actually, I have lots of friends in UST. The priest who brought me here in Manila, my thesis adviser, he's a Dominican and there are lots of priests and alumni from UST who are my friends.'

De La Salle recently lost dominant big man Cameroonian Ben Mbala, who decided to forego his last season of eligibility in favor of a stint in the Mexico professional league.

Ayo and officials from De La Salle and UST did not return calls or replied to text messages on the issue.
