Irish View: IGB confirms delay for the Irish Derb y.
THE Irish Greyhound Board has just released the calendar of feature events for 2006 and it confirms that the Paddy Power Irish Greyhound Derby will be run a week earlier than usual.
Many of Ireland's major sporting events have been moved to avoid a calamitous clash with the Ryder Cup, which is due to be staged at the K Club outside Dublin September 22-24.
The two All-Ireland finals have been shifted to Sunday, September 3 and 17, and so the Derby final will be run on the 'in-between' weekend to avoid what would be another serious clash of fixtures.
As already revealed in this column, the format for the Derby is likely to be changed in order to avoid disturbing the Boylesports International at Dundalk and the Boylesports Champion Stakes at Shelbourne.
Elsewhere, most of the Irish majors will be run very much as before. The major final dates are: April 8 Easter Cup Shelbourne Park April 30 Produce Stakes Clonmel May 6 Ladbrokes 600 Shelbourne Park June 24 St Leger Limerick June 30 Corn Cuchulainn HX July 8 Irish Oaks Shelbourne Park July 12 Boylesports International Dundalk July 29 Boylesports Champion Stakes Dundalk August 15 Irish Sprint Cup Dundalk September 9 Paddy Power Irish Derby Shelbourne Park October 6 Puppy Derby HX October 21 Irish Laurels Cork November 4 Waterford Masters Waterford November 24 Baggot Racing Irish Grand National HX December 16 Comerford Cakes National Puppy Stake Shelbourne Park December 22 Ted Hegarty Marathon HX
