Irish 2,000 Guineas reaction: Connections rule out Derby bid for Indian Haven.
Byline: Roy BriggsTHEY may have been vindicated in forking out EUR40,000 (pounds 29,000) to supplement Indian Haven for the Irish 2,000 Guineas, but connections have decided against dipping into their pockets again to add their Curragh hero to the list of runners for the Vodafone Derby, writes Roy Briggs.
The Paul d'Arcy-trained colt will now be kept to a mile, despite evidence from his breeding which points towards the son of Indian Ridge staying further.
The trainer said yesterday: "We have considered all the options and the Derby is a non-starter. The St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot is the next likely target.
"The horse has taken the race very
well and has come out of it in great
shape."
If connections had a change of heart, it would cost them pounds 90,000 to add
Indian Haven at Monday's supplementary stage for Epsom.
