IF there was a World Cup for horse racing Ireland would be what Brazil is to soccer.

It is a major achievement and the country can be rightly proud 14 mounts trained here won at the Cheltenham Festival.

Don Cossack romping home in the Gold Cup to lead an Irish 1-2-3 on National Hunt racing's biggest day was the perfect finale.

The festival week is an event like no other where English and Irish mingle and are united in their love of this great sport.

It has also been a good week for punters who might be sorry the racing is over but they can look forward to the start of the Irish flat season which begins tomorrow.
