Ireland in top 7 for credit card fraud.

CRIMINALS in Ireland have earned pounds 3.36million through credit card fraud in the past 18 months.

And the figure means Ireland now lies seventh in the world rankings for the crime - one place lower than it was in 1999.

Spain holds the world's top position on the Barclay's credit card fraud index.

A senior Garda source said last night: "This is one of the fastest-growing crimes in the country because our economy is booming.

"Credit cards should be treated in the same way as cash - because that's what they are."
