Iraqi forces free kidnapped university students in Diala.

Baghdad, Apr 20, (VOI) a" Iraqi army soldiers freed a number of university students a few hours after they were kidnapped by gunmen in Diala, northeast of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, the Iraqi Defense Ministry said in a statement on Sunday.

"An Iraqi army force launched an operation in Diala that resulted in the release of a number of male and female students who had been kidnapped by terrorists on the Baaquba-Kanaan highway," according to the statement received by Aswat al-Iraq a" Voices of Iraq a" (VOI).

A security source earlier said that unidentified gunmen kidnapped nine Diala University students and a bus driver. The gunmen boarded the bus after stopping them at a fake checkpoint near Baaquba, the capital of Diala province, 57 km northeast of Baghdad.
