Iraqi clearances spearhead fight against "Daesh" in Iraq - CJTF-OIR.
WASHINGTON, March 29 (KUNA) -- US-led Coalition and Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) conducted a coordinated air and ground operation and several "clearance operations against Daesh's" networks" in northern and western Iraq from March 25-27, Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) announced Friday. The CJTF-OIR said in a statement that "the ISF conducted several clearance operations to find and destroy Daesh fighters," where the clearances, which were supported with Coalition air strikes, targeted "Daesh command sites, bed down locations, and movement corridors." "Daesh" is the Arabic acronym of the so-called Islamic State, a movement of hardlines who advocate Islamic slogans. The group, which had occupied large swaths of land in Iraq and Syria, lost its last stronghold, Baghouz in Syria, a few days ago. In this regard, Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve Deputy Commander-Strategy and Information Christopher Ghika stressed "after losing all their territory, Daesh wants to rebuild its forces and resume attacks in Iraq to fulfill its territorial ambitions." He stressed "the recent air campaign in northern and western Iraq has damaged Daesh's network and has delivered a powerful message; Coalition and Iraqi Forces continue to be a unified team, remaining committed to the enduring defeat of Daesh." The statement affirmed that "united international efforts against Daesh have resulted in the liberation of Daesh-occupied territory." "The ongoing fight against the terrorists will ensure their enduring defeat and the decline of their extremist's ideology," it added. (end) si.rk
