Iraq's state grains board has purchased 100,000 of wheat from Europe, European traders said on Sunday.

The wheat was purchased under a tender for a nominal 50,000 tonnes, which closed on July 13 with bids valid until July 17.

On July 14, traders said Iraq's grain board was close to signing a deal to purchase 300,000 tonnes of US hard red winter wheat in the tender.

The US deal has not yet been confirmed. Traders said it was unclear whether the European buy was in addition to the possible US deal or would replace it. - Reuters
