Iraq's Kurdistan Region announces initial results of parl't elections.

IRBIL, Oct 4 (KUNA) -- Supreme Commission for Elections and Referendum in Iraq's Kurdistan Region declared on Thursday initial results of 85 percent of votes in the parliamentary polls conducted on September 30. Spokesman of the commission Sherwan Zarar said in a news conference that the Kurdistan Democratic Party, led by Massoud Barzani, takes the lead in the counting process with 595,992 votes followed by the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan with 287,575 and the movement for change with 164,336. The movement of the new generation came fourth with 113,297 votes followed by the Islamic group with 94,992 and the reform movement with 69,477, he noted. There are some 1045 complaints, which will be settled in order to declare the final results, he pointed out. Last Sunday, legislative elections were conducted in which 733 candidates representing 29 lists vied for 111 seats at the parliament. More than 3 million eligible voters have the right to cast their ballots in the voting. (end)
