Iranian pilgrims killed in bomb blast; world newsbulletin.

A BLAST targeting a busload of Iranian pilgrims in a suburb of Damascus yesterday, killed up to 12 people, it was reported yesterday.

The explosion happened in the Sayyida Zainab suburb of the Syrian city. Iranian state-run Press TV reported that as many as a dozen people may have been killed.

The suburb is popular with Iranian pilgrims and is the location of a shrine dedicated to the granddaughter of the Prophet Muhammad.

Syria's Interior Minister confirmed there had been an explosion in Damascus. But Said Mohammad Sammour told Lebanon's Al-Manar Hezbollah television station that the cause had not yet been determined.
