Iran Islamic Republic of : Iran starts pumping gas into its reservoirs.

Iran's Deputy Oil Minister Javad Owji has announced during the last solar year (which ended on March 19) that 110-120 million cubic meters of gas have been pumped by Iran into its gas reservoirs, and the country will try to reconnoiter at least 40 new gas reservoirs until the close of the Fifth National Development Plan (until 2015).

According to Owji, during some days in winter, the daily consumption of gas exceeded 560 mcm last year, and the need to pump the gas into the reservoirs became more clear.

It has been officially stated that the daily gas production of Iran is 600 mcm, while 13 gas processing plants operate at present in the country.

Iran has inked several gas agreements with Turkey and Turkmenistan. It imports around 24 mcm/d of gas from Turkmenistan while it exports 26-28 mcm/d of gas to Turkey.

Iran follows only Russia as the world leader in oil reserves and has around 35 trillion cubic meters of gas.
